How Transferring Helps College Students Succeed

The state of Kentucky has an education goal to have 60% of the population attain a postsecondary degree or credential by 2030, and a massive way driving the progress to this goal is helping students transfer. Students who transfer save time and money on college and go on to make more money than those who don’t transfer. The cost of college can be massively reduced for those who already attended a community college for an associate degree who have then gone on to transfer to a university for a bachelor’s degree. 10 years after graduating, associate grads made $37,000 a year while bachelor’s grads made a whopping $63,000 a year.

While transferring from a community college to a university is known by many students, only a small number end up fully completing this path. The 2+2 formula, where a student spends 2 years at a community college and then 2 years in a bachelor’s program is widely known across colleges across the country, only 8% of transfer students complete their college careers in this way.
